Så hvad nu hvis stationsområdet kunne være byens portal og forstærke byrumsopland?
If you think about stations outside Copenhagen, which is your first thought? Final point? Busy people? 7 Eleven? Dirty place? Unattractive place to stay?
Yes, sometimes definitely!
Despite that, stations attract many people and traffic, clearly defining their role within the city.
Why should we consider stations as an ending point?
Despite stations lie like a castle in the middle of the city, they contribute to the dynamics and movement, configuring and characterises that specific place.
As a city portal, stations can offer a range of activities and serve as a connection and assembly point at the same time.
As part of regeneration and growth process, the area around the station can be transformed into a city´ s place, a connection for the city's parts
through public realm enhancements.
Money and creative energy have to transform stations as anchor points in the urban areas, attractive and well designed public space that belongs to everyone, specially where a conventional historical center doesn't exist. Photo and project @wemadethat
Can design proposals help station areas, both aesthetically and strategically,
to perform better? And if yes, how?
Design can for example respond to themes of greenery, local heritage and civic nature of railway stations to aid city´ s area to be, “The best suburban it can be”. Photo and project @Assemble
Through the introduction of key enhancement features such as a designed clock, shopfront improvements, planting and graphic design, the areas around stations live up their role as arrival point to the city centre, and the whole borough. Photo and project @wemadethat
